There is something about holding something well-made in your hands. The sturdy feeling of a piece or homemade pottery. How that warmth of that mug extends all over my body, or the alluring heavy drapery of pure linen. Don’t you just love the quiet whisper of a crackling fire? Have you ever seen the breathtaking memorizing colors from a sunrise? It breathes life into your day. Or the touch of a brand new baby’s skin? The silky delicate feel moves you! The captivating simplicities fill me with a profound gratitude to God for the senses He gave me!
There is a lot of hardship in life, many crosses. A lot that can keep us awake at night. As a woman who struggles with sensor processing disorder and who often struggles with depression and carries the cross of anxiety, Im beginning to learn that these things can also be a gift. If I remember to put on the right sort of glasses. I believe that God gave us the senses as a gift to enjoy the beautiful things all around us.
I do wonder if that could be what Jesus meant when he said ” We must become like little children”? I know it’s often explained in regards to faith but I wonder if He could have also meant ” if we put on the eyes of a child” To stop and wonder at the created beauty all around us? That we would be able to see HIm everyday in the beautiful little things that surrounds us like, the pleasure it gives your eyes at the sight of a well organized room, or the feel of soft linen, the taste of rich chocolate, the smell of morning coffee, the sound of the soothing ocean waves the beauty of new precious life. To take comfort in knowing these are gifts from Him, an assurance of His being near.
So to all my friends who are struggling today to find hope, take comfort in the little things around you. He is near! Throw your cares on Him and trust in Him! Find those things that make you tick and hold onto them when life gets hard. You may feel like ” This Mama Don’t got this” but take heart for HE indeed has got you! SO savory your chocolate, sip your coffee, kiss your loved ones linger a little longer taking in the beauties in life.
